Real Madrid are already laying the groundwork for what promises to be a decisive summer transfer window in 2026.

According to a recent report from SPORT, the club is preparing to be extremely active once the season comes to an end, with two priority areas clearly identified – midfield and centre-back.

Notably, one move that is already considered a certainty is the return of Nico Paz from Como.

Beyond the young Argentine, Real Madrid are planning to bring in at least two more players who are expected to slot straight into the first-team picture.

Defensive stability, in particular, has become a growing concern.

Absolute need for a centre-back

The centre-back position is again under scrutiny, as David Alaba is set to leave in the summer, while the future of Antonio Rudiger remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, recurring injury issues have prevented Eder Militao from enjoying any real continuity.

Although Madrid have internal options such as Raul Asencio and Dean Huijsen, the feeling is that a new centre-back is needed.

Most of the defenders who have been discussed so far share one thing in common – their contracts expire in 2026, making free transfers a realistic possibility.

However, some names have already been discarded. Ibrahima Konate is no longer being considered, while Dayot Upamecano is close to renewing with Bayern Munich.

Other profiles monitored include Marc Guehi, Nico Schlotterbeck, whose deal runs until 2027, and young prospect Jeremy Jacquet.

What about midfield?

In midfield, the need is even more obvious. Xabi Alonso has already requested a player with a clear organising profile.

That role has been sorely missed in recent seasons. Despite initial reluctance from the board, who felt the current squad was sufficient, performances this season have exposed the gap.

Two midfielders remain firmly on Madrid’s radar, namely, Adam Wharton and Kees Smit.

Both were considered last summer and are still being closely monitored. However, landing either would require a significant financial investment.
