On Sunday night, the Boston College men’s hockey team faced off against the Western Michigan Broncos in Milwaukee for the Holiday Face-Off tournament. WMU got an early 3-0 lead and, despite a comeback effort by BC, hung on to win 5-3.
BC is missing a few important players over winter break due to national team obligations, namely James Hagens, Teddy Stiga, Luka Radivojevic, plus head coach Greg Brown. But the Eagles did add new freshman Oscar Hemming, who is a top prospect in the 2026 NHL Draft and an important midseason addition for a team in need of scoring depth.
Western Michigan and BC had a back-and-forth, mostly even first period, but it was WMU that got the early 1-0 lead after sneaking a goal under a rusty Louka Cloutier. Then the second period brought on more Broncos offense, with the lead ballooning to 3-0 midway through the period.
BC started to score themselves later in the game, with Aram Minnetian scoring in the second period, followed by a Ryan Conmy and a Dean Letourneau goal in the third. But a late 2nd period goal gave WMU some breathing room with a 4-3 lead. Despite some late pushes by the Eagles to tie the game, the Broncos scored in the final minute to put away a 5-3 victory.
Boston College will face Lake Superior State tomorrow in the tournament consolation game at 5PM ET.
