The Golden State Warriors have been quiet this NBA offseason.

Al Horford’s future has remained one of the more intriguing storylines of the offseason. After helping the Boston Celtics reach the Eastern Conference semifinals last season, the 39-year-old big man entered free agency with multiple paths ahead. While some speculated retirement was a possibility, Horford was also quickly linked to contenders such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors—teams in need of size, experience, and floor spacing.
With the Lakers opting to sign Deandre Ayton, there was heightened optimism from Warriors fans around a move for Horford. The idea of adding a veteran like Horford to stabilize Golden State’s frontcourt was seen as a natural fit. However, as weeks passed and no deal emerged, chatter around Horford’s next move grew quiet.
That changed Monday. Per ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, both Horford and guard De’Anthony Melton are now “widely expected” to join the Warriors. Siegel reports that multiple teams at Summer League believe the two already have verbal agreements in place with Golden State, but the deals are being delayed due to the unresolved situation with forward Jonathan Kuminga.
The 22-year-old is reportedly seeking a significant contract extension, and the Warriors have been cautious with their financial commitments. Kuminga, seeking a substantial new deal, has also reportedly not drawn much interest from teams unwilling or unable to match his asking price.

This comes on the heels of NBA insider Marc Stein reporting on Sunday, "I still expect Al Horford and De'Anthony Melton to wind up in Golden State when their signing commitments are made public and official."
Should the Warriors reach a resolution on the Kuminga situation and ink a deal with Horford, the move would mark the franchise’s first meaningful addition of the offseason, as Golden State has been notably inactive while other Western Conference teams have reloaded. Adding Horford would give the team a top-class veteran defender and an additional three-point shooting option—an ideal complement to Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler.
