OUTLOOK
Ben Whitver committed to James Madison in June and signed with the Dukes on December 3rd. Once JMU head coach Bob Chesney left Harrisonburg for UCLA, Whitver was able to be released from his NLI with JMU. He didn’t follow Chesney to UCLA though, instead taking advantage of an offer from Penn State.
Whitver had a storied career in Virginia high school football, closing his career as the state’s all-time leader in receiving yards and coming in third in total receptions. While he’ll need to develop more physically and doesn’t profile as someone who will ever run a sub-4.4 forty, Whitver displays strong hands, fantastic ball skills, and quite honestly a penchant for getting open. With Matt Campbell scrambling to get some of the few remaining unsigned prospects in Penn State’s 2026 recruiting class, Whitver makes sense a flier with quite a bit of upside.
