Liverpool might now have a chance to sign a Man City star they've always wanted.

So it looks like the Reds aren't signing Antoine Semenyo. As per the ever reliable The Athletic's David Ornstein, the Bournemouth winger has chosen Manchester City as his next destination.

Ultimately, Liverpool's interest waned towards the final few days as Semenyo pondered on his decision. Losing out on him is disappointing.

Semenyo is a fantastic player, who is extremely two-footed and who is going to make Pep Guardiola's side a much better outfit.

But as one door closes another door could open for Liverpool in the transfer market.

Even clubs like Man City cannot operate on just a buy, buy and do not sell basis. Now that Semenyo seems to be heading towards the Etihad, another player could leave.

Dean Jones reports that Manchester City are now going to allow for an attacking departure in January with Semenyo set to join.

The reporter listed three possible names:

Oscar Bobb

Savinho

Omar Marmoush

It's the latter that should be the green light for Liverpool to pursue an audacious move. The Reds have always held an interest in Marmoush.

They were huge admirers of him at Eintracht Frankfurt and were ready to sign him last season but in the end City swooped ahead of them.

Marmoush had a great start to life at City but has fallen out of favour this season, and he is clearly not a major part of their plans.

That doesn't mean he's not a good player. Marmoush is still fantastic and he's showing that for Egypt at the African Cup of Nations. Also, it's easy to forget he made 45 goal contributions in 51 games last season.

There's another element to this possible move that makes it even more alluring for Liverpool.

In Hugo Ekitike, Marmoush has a partner with whom he thrived at Frankfurt last season. The two of them formed a terrifying duo, playing 36 games together in which they combined for a goal six times - the most of anyone in both Ekitike's and Marmoush's career.

In total, Marmoush (34) and Ekitike (24) made 58 goal contributions in the 36 games they played together.

That's an incredible record and an incredible partnership. They simply thrived while playing with each other.

And it's important to mention, Marmoush also has an established relationship with Mo Salah for the Egyptian national team. They both play really well with each other there as well.

So, if City have made him available, then it's a green light for Liverpool to swoop in. Marmoush is exactly the versatile forward Richard Hughes is looking for at the moment.
