Chelsea legend Thiago Silva was never under consideration for a return to the club despite reports according to The Athletic.

Silva spent four years at Chelsea, and left the club at the end of the 2023/2024 season having helped the Blues win their second Champions League title.

The veteran Brazilian returned to his homeland and signed for Fluminense, and came up against Chelsea in the semi finals of the Club World Cup.

Thiago Silva Chelsea return never under consideration at Chelsea

Silva announced he would be leaving the Brazilian club earlier this month, which prompted links of a return to Chelsea, given his affiliation with the club, and the fact his children are still at the academy.

Darren Bent described bringing Silva back as a “no brainer”, but the centre back ended up signing for Portuguese giants Porto on a short term deal until the end of the season.

Silva spent four years at Chelsea after joining on a free transfer.

A Chelsea return would have been fairytale stuff, and Silva has stated he would like to return and manage the club one day.

The return didn’t happen and The Athletic have reported Silva was never under consideration as the Blues felt they had enough centre backs.

Chelsea do have a number of centre backs on their books, and given their youth driven transfer policy, a move for Silva was never going to be likely.

Aaron Anselmino impressing at Borussia Dortmund

Whilst Chelsea didn’t move for Silva, one player who could be part of the first team squad next season is youngster Aaron Anselmino.

Anselmino arrived from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2024, and made his debut at the Club World Cup before being sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund this season.

The Argentine has put in a series of impressive performances for the Bundesliga giants, with Dortmund interested in signing him on a permanent basis.

However, Chelsea have made it clear Anselmino isn’t for sale, and if he continues his good form, he could well find himself as part of the first team squad next season.
