Future on minds of many fans at last Chiefs home game of season

Many fans said that it was a disappointing year for the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of their Christmas Day matchup with the Denver Broncos.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Many fans said that it was a disappointing year for the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of their Christmas Day matchup with the Denver Broncos.

“Obviously, like we’ve kind of had our moments of greatness, but with injuries, I mean, it’s not going great,” said fan Jenna Gitlin.

“I think there are definitely some things that we can do to help fix that.”

Gitlin thinks draft picks could help the Chiefs next season, but she feels that other teams have learned how to defend against the Chiefs’ offense.

“Our offense has become very predictable,” she said. “Because people have figured out what the Chiefs are all about and so they can read it. Now it’s not unfamiliar anymore.”

Other fans agreed.

“I think that all the other teams across the NFL have looked at the Chiefs over the last five or six years and seen how dominant they were but we don’t ever change things,” said Dale Davis.

“We don’t ever change the plays. We just sit here and continuously run the same stuff day in and day out.”

Davis says it may take changes at the coaching level for the Chiefs to be a Super Bowl contending team again.

Unique tradition brings comfort to local seniors spending Christmas alone

“Nagy? He ain’t for the Chiefs, he ain’t for Chiefs Kingdom…  we need to bring people in that complement Andy [Reid].”

Many fans thought they might be seeing Travis Kelce’s last home game with the Chiefs, as the 36-year-old wraps up his 13th season in the league.

“I love Travis Kelce, but I think we could get another tight end in there that’s a little bit younger, a little bit healthier,” said Gitlin.

“Bring back Travis Kelce,” said Dakota Smith. “I don’t know. You know, it might be his last game today. It might not be you know, it’d be really cool to see him back here. If not, I mean, I’ll be here for his last home game.”

Other fans just came to the game to have fun on Christmas Day. Spenser Yousko’s family all dressed up in Santa costumes.

“We felt like we had to bring some cheer to the Chiefs fans today,” she said.

“It’s not the year that we wanted, but we still love them and we’re still here to cheer for him. And we hope they all have a very merry Christmas. We can just hope for the best. Next year? We’ll still be here.”
