Is Tarik Skubal one of the three best players in baseball?
If you asked Jon Heyman, he would say yes.
After another stellar outing yesterday against the Texas Rangers, Heyman took to X this morning to heap praise on to the Tigers’ lefty.
“Tarik Skubal has joined the super upper echelon of greatness/domination in Major League Baseball inhabited only by Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani and him,” Heyman tweeted to his nearly one million followers.
National respect is something Detroit players are going to have to fight extra for. A playoff appearance last year is cute, but the previous decade of ineptitude is still what people across the nation associate with the Tigers.
Voices like Heyman’s go a long way in shifting the narrative surrounding the Tigers. His reach is vast; people just need one person to put the thought in their head, “Wait, are they really that good?” His one tweet may have done that exact thing to thousands of people today.
The best way to change people’s minds, though, is to take care of business on the field. And Skubal is leading the charge for the Tigers.
“For me, there is no way you can tell me Tarik Skubal, if you watched that game last night, is not the favorite to win his 2nd Cy Young,” former pitcher Jake Peavy said on MLB Network this morning.
More and more discussion is coming about the Tigers. They have played too well to be ignored. But how far analysts and media personalities go in spotlighting them could be the key to making them household names all around the country.
