Top-five recruit Jerzy Robinson is going to be a South Carolina Gamecock.
Texas claims two top 10-ranked recruits. UConn and Tennessee each have an Olivia/Oliviyah. USC has the nation’s No. 1 recruit.
But, South Carolina has Jerzy Robinson.
The highest-ranked uncommitted recruit in the class of 2026, Robinson, ranked No. 5 in the SportsCenter NEXT 100, announced that she is signing with South Carolina.
A 6-foot-0 guard who plays for Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, CA, Robinson joins a Gamecock recruiting class that already included Kaeli Wynn, the No. 17-ranked 6-foot-2 forward who also is from California, and Kelsi Andrews, the No. 18-ranked 6-foot-3 forward from Alabama who suffered a knee injury soon after announcing her commitment to South Carolina.
For South Carolina fans, the good news from Robinson follows a similarly exciting announcement about Alicia Tournebize, a 6-foot-7 center from France who is set to enroll in South Carolina in January and immediately suit up for the Gamecocks.
Robinson, however, is the biggest prize for head coach Dawn Staley’s program, evidenced by the fact that she revealed her choice on ESPN’s NBA Today. Robinson, who officially visited South Carolina in October, when she was feted by the FAMs at Colonial Life Arena and hobnobbed with A’ja Wilson, gave the following explanation for her decision:
I chose South Carolina because I had a sense of peace when it came down to the decision for me
I was guided by my faith throughout my recruitment. I just consulted the Lord. I sought him out, asked for direction and some guidance. And after talking to him and my family, we came to the decision that South Carolina was home for me.
It was all in God’s time. You can’t rush that, you can’t stop that, you can’t speed that up. … When I visited South Carolina, I was already home. I was already valued there. … I felt like this was where I needed to be for the next four years.
First recruited by Staley as a 14-year-old, Robinson sees her commitment to South Carolina as a “full-circle moment.”
And, it’s easy to see how Robinson will fit with Staley’s Gamecocks, as she brings the kind of physical style of play that has defined South Carolina.
The willingness to defend and activity on the glass that sets her apart from other prospects should earn her early minutes with the Gamecocks. She also embraces physicality on the offensive end as an aggressive driver who puts pressure on the opposing defense.
