Much has already been said about Barcelona and their urgency to sign a low-cost defender in the January transfer window following the injury to Andreas Christensen.
However, a recent report from AS has brought important clarity to the situation, confirming that the club is deliberately taking a calm and measured approach rather than rushing into the market.
According to the report, Barcelona have no intention of making a snap decision in January.
The club understand that the winter window is notoriously difficult, especially when it comes to defenders who can make an immediate impact.
Panic buys rarely work, and the sporting department is keen to avoid repeating past mistakes that have added little value to the squad.
There is time to decide
AS explains that Barça currently have a 20-day period to fully assess and process Christensen’s long-term injury.
If it is officially confirmed that the Danish centre-back will be sidelined for four to five months, the club would then be allowed, under La Liga regulations, to use up to 80% of his salary margin.
This provides some financial flexibility, but it does not automatically mean Barcelona will act on it.

Internally, there is a clear consensus between Hansi Flick and Deco. Both believe that any signing must genuinely improve the team.
Notably, the club’s priority is to sign a top-level left-footed centre-back in the summer transfer window.
That is when the market is more open, negotiations are easier, and quality players are more likely to be available.
In contrast, January is viewed as a poor time to secure that kind of profile, as no club is willing to part with an important defender midway through the season.
While the market may offer short-term opportunities, Barcelona will be extremely cautious.
Any player who arrives must adapt quickly, understand Flick’s system, and be capable of contributing at a high level.
If such a profile is not available, the club will rely on internal solutions and tactical adjustments.
