In a tragic twist of timing, some of late NASCAR star Greg Biffle’s friends and loved ones are getting his family’s holiday card sent prior to their deaths.

As Globe previously reported, Biffle’s plane was involved in a crash at the Statesville Airport in North Carolina on Thursday, December 18, that killed him and seven others, including his wife, Cristina Grossu, daughter Emma, 14, and son Ryder, 5.

On Sunday, December 21, Ron Herbert, who owns the Red Rocks Cafe in Huntersville, North Carolina, and was friends with the Biffles, shared a card from the family on Instagram.

The photo featured the family in white shirts and jeans, laughing in front of snow-flocked Christmas greenery. Emma and Cristina are smiling at each other, while Ryder leans across his dad’s lap.

“We hope that you are able to slow down and enjoy the magic and joy that this season has to offer. We hope you have a great New Year! Sending love, Greg, Christina, Emma & Ryder,” the card’s message read.

“I received this in the mail today. My words can’t say enough about the family,” Herbert captioned the post along with several prayer hands emojis and crying faces.

The family died while celebrating a birthday getaway, Cristina’s mom, Cathy Grossu, told People on December 19. “To think that they would be killed on a birthday trip, that was just such a fun time for the family,” she said. “But they were happy.”

The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are currently investigating the accident.
