Several experienced players make themselves available to Barcelona as short-term fix – report

According to a recent report from SPORT, several international players have offered themselves to Barcelona on short-term deals, specifically for a six-month spell until the end of the season. 

The outlet mentions that these approaches include one player from the Premier League, one from Serie A, and another from the Bundesliga.

The context for these offers is clear. Barcelona’s centre-back depth has been severely weakened, and Hansi Flick has expressed serious concerns about how the situation could impact the campaign. 

Internally, Flick has warned that the current defensive scenario could “ruin” the season if it is not handled correctly. 

As a result, he has asked the club to carefully review every single proposal, even if they do not fit into the club’s long-term vision.

So what now?

There is caution within the sporting management. These players are currently being viewed strictly as “emergency solutions”, rather than signings that genuinely excite the decision-makers.

No one is convinced that any of the names offered would raise the team’s level significantly, which explains why no move has been rushed through despite the growing need.

Notably, the ongoing absence of Ronald Araujo had already triggered alarm bells within the coaching staff, and the injury suffered by Andreas Christensen has left the project in a particularly fragile position.

Now, Barcelona have indeed received formal proposals from experienced international defenders who are fully aware that their stay would likely last just six months, with little chance of continuing beyond the summer. 

Players from England, Italy, and Germany see the opportunity to wear the Blaugrana shirt, even temporarily, as attractive. 

However, doubts remain over their sporting suitability and physical readiness.

Despite this, Barcelona’s sporting leadership believes it will be impossible to finalise any transfer operation in January.
