Check out how area wrestling teams did the past week
WHITE PIGEON — Both Centreville and White Pigeon wrestling teams picked up victories last week on the mats.
Centreville's Noah Brooks also grappled to his 100th career victory for the Bulldogs. Jesse Fielis of White Pigeon also won his 100th career match on the mats.
Conference action began for the wrestling teams and Centreville claimed wins over Comstock 72-11 and Hartford 58-23.
White Pigeon beat Comstock 77-6 and Hartford 42-38. Going unbeaten for the night for the Chiefs were Cooper Lowe at 106, David Lane (132), Hunter Pant (144), William Throw (150), Fielis, Norberto Monroy (175) and Devin Smith (190).
White Pigeon also wrestled on Saturday afternoon, finishing with a record of 2-3. The Chiefs beat Vicksburg (60-18) and Lawton (48-36). Brock Franklin wrestled to a record of 3-0 at 190/215 pounds. Devon Schaffer at 120, Pant, Fielis and Nolan Bright (215/285) each had just one loss.
Trojans win twice
The Sturgis wrestling team beat Edwardsburg 63-14 and Niles 50-26 last week. With the wins, Sturgis is now 9-1 in dual matchups.
Going 2-0 were Richie Scott (106), Jouse Galvan (113), Cooper Barkby (120), Easton Barkby (132), Liam McKinley (138), Dechlan Fieberkorn (144) and Juan Pablo Soto (165).
Mendon splits matches
The Mendon wrestling team split matches with Covert and Bangor. The Hornets dropped a close one to Bangor at 42-34 but had wins by Ash Staffen (113), Braxten Haigh (126), Xavior Zinsmaster (144), Zak Iobe (165), JT Lux (190) and Phoenix Dunson (215). Picking up wins over Covert were Staffen, Lucas Dudley (120), Haigh, Claire Haskins (132), Keaton Weeks (144), Zinsmaster, Iobe, Lux, Dunson and Jordan Palmer.
Bronson wins three matches
The Bronson wrestling team logged three wins over the last week. On Saturday, the Vikes wrestled in the Clipper Classic and won a pair of matches over Carmen Airport 44-35 and Maple Valley 54-3. Martin (42-36), Decatur (45-32) and Whitehall (46-31) each edged the Vikings.
Caleb Harvey, Gabe Erwin and Sam Tappenden each went 5-0 on Saturday. Layne Knisely and Connor Harvey both finished with 4-1 marks.
On Wednesday, Clinton beat Bronson 39-27. Winning for the Vikes were James Shutts (106), Cooper Ferry (126), Dreyton Turner (150), Knisely, Tappenden and Caleb Harvey.
