The Other Men’s Top 25: Utah St. retakes top spot, Nevada makes biggest jump

The Mountain West has six teams in the ranking this week

This week marks the third straight week that we have a different team ranked No. 1 in the men’s Other Top 25. Utah St. and Saint Louis trade places in the top two spots.

The Aggies are up to 10-1 on the season and opened Mountain West play with a convincing 100-58 win over Colorado St. USU has won three straight games with its only loss coming at South Florida. Jerrod Calhoun’s team is 17th in the NET, 29th in KenPom and 31st in BartTorvik. It sits in the top 35 in both adjusted offensive and defensive efficiency, per KenPom.

The Billikens came in second. Saint Mary’s, George Mason and New Mexico rounded out the top five.

The biggest jump this week belonged to Nevada, who moved up to 11 after tying for 23 last week. The Wolf Pack are 9-3 and have won five straight. They defeated Boise St. 81-66 Saturday. Their win streak also includes wins over UC San Diego, Washington St. and San Francisco. Steve Alford’s group is 78th in Torvik, 80th in the NET and 86th in KenPom.

Belmont and Tulsa were the two teams to move into the top 10 this week. The Bruins are up to No. 8 and are 12-1. The Golden Hurricane sits at 10 with an 11-1 record. It has won its last eight games.

Dayton dropped all the way from No. 4 into a tie for 13. Colorado St. also tumbled as the Rams fell from a tie for seven to 18th.

Four teams joined the ranking after not being ranked last week: Seattle (No. 20), Murray St. (No. T-21), Cal Baptist (No. T-21) and Kent St. (No. T-23). They replaced Richmond, UNC Wilmington, Northern Iowa and George Washington.
