The injury to Andreas Christensen has affected the FC Barcelona dressing room, as the Danish centre-back is one of the most highly regarded professionals due to his commitment.
Christensen has not had much luck at Barcelona because, despite performing at a very high level when fit, injuries have limited him and led to long periods on the sidelines.
Days after putting in a brilliant display in the Copa del Rey against CD Guadalajara, the 29-year-old suffered a partial ACL tear and is now set to be out for around four months.
The injury comes at an inopportune time for Christensen, given that he was fighting for a new contract at Barcelona, with his current one expiring at the end of the season.
Laporta considers Christensen renewal
In a classy gesture, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is considering proposing a one-year contract renewal for Christensen following his injury blow, as per Santi Ovalle on Cadena SER.

Christensen is currently in his fourth season at Barça, having joined as a free agent in the summer of 2022.
During these years, all the coaches he has worked under have highlighted his behaviour, professionalism and, above all, his performances on the pitch.
In fact, Hansi Flick has always been clear that Christensen was one of the best centre-backs in the squad, but the Dane has been hampered by fitness issues time and again.
With his contract expiring on 30 June, the defender’s future has become uncertain, even though he has his heart set on staying at the club. The injury, which will keep him out for almost the rest of the season, has now complicated matters.
As such, Laporta has moved to consider offering a one-year renewal to Christensen, as long as the financial conditions are different from the current ones. It is, for now, simply an idea that is on the table.
