Roy Keane has delivered another condemning assessment of Manchester United, accusing them of being among the Premier League’s worst teams out of possession after their latest defeat exposed familiar defensive flaws.

While Keane acknowledged the attacking promise shown under Ruben Amorim, United have been outscored only by Manchester City this season, he insisted that creative output cannot excuse the alarming ease with which opponents continue to carve them open. Their 2-1 loss, the fifth of the league campaign, again highlighted a side capable of scoring but unable to suffer.

Morgan Rogers’ two goals proved the clearest illustration. Keane criticised Leny Yoro for a lack of urgency as Rogers received the ball for his opener, allowing the Villa forward to cut inside unchallenged before unleashing a superb strike. For the second, Diogo Dalot’s passive attempt to block a cross drew similar ire.

You can have all the talent in the world, but you have to roll your sleeves up,” Keane said, speaking on Sky Sports. “These are the ugly bits of football, and that’s what the top teams do.

For Keane, United’s problems extend beyond individual errors. He pointed to a collective unwillingness to dig deep, noting six goals conceded across the last two matches and warning that Newcastle will relish exploiting such weaknesses at Old Trafford.

Out of possession they’re one of the worst teams in the league,” Keane added. “With the ball they’re good, but if you want to be a top footballer, it’s about what you do without it.
