SAN FRANCISCO — Freshman guard Jazzy Davidson proved once again Sunday evening why she is one of the fastest rising stars in all of Women's basketball, as she delivered yet another career night with the USC Trojans headed north to play the California Golden Bears at the Chase Center. Davidson led the Women of Troy with 24 points on 9-21 shooting from the floor, 3-6 from three-point range, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 blocks en route to a nail-biting 61-57 victory.
USC relied on its shooting abilities from three-point range in the first half as Davidson shot perfectly from beyond the arc, and the rest of the Women of Troy shot a combined 5-11. The freshman guard had herself 14 first-half points, while Kennedy Smith and Kara Dunn each provided 7 points and a couple of threes to their credit.
By the end of the first half, the Women of Troy had themselves a slim 31-28 lead, despite only shooting a measly 35% from the floor and getting outrebounded and scoring fewer points in the paint.
The Trojans would play a much more polished second half against the Golden Bears as Davidson continued to dominate on both ends of the floor, especially defensively, where she picked up 2 additional blocks and ramped up her game total to a team-high 4 rejections, including a crucial blocked three-point attempt that happened during the final 12 seconds of the game, which prevented California's Lulu Twidale from cutting the Golden Bears deficit to just one.
The USC defense ultimately silenced the Golden Bears, as they only managed to score just a single field goal throughout the entire fourth quarter, which in part gave the Women of Troy enough time on offense to muster up some insurance points and secure the road victory. Dunn and Davidson led the way with 5 fourth-quarter points, along with junior forward Gerda Raulusaityte snagging 5 boards.
With this win, the Women of Troy advance to 9-3 on the young season, but now look ahead to another top 25 matchup with the No.23 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers at Lincoln, which will end the 2025 part of the season for the Trojans. USC will then enter the new year on a high note with a classic Los Angeles showdown against crosstown rival UCLA Bruins at the Pauley Pavilion.
