Ken Rosenthal, in The Athletic, writes that the Jays are showing interest in Alex Bregman:

Team officials have been in recent contact with Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, according to sources briefed on the conversations. Ideally, the Jays want to add a left-handed hitter, but either the right-handed Bregman or Bichette would fit their defensive alignment better than Tucker or Cody Bellinger, both of whom bat left.

I’m not thrilled with the idea of Bregman signing with the Jays. He’s 32. As good as he is defensively, I’m expecting he’ll lose some of that in the next few years. He’s got a nice bit of power, hitting 18 home runs with a .273/.360/.462 line last year.

Personally, I’d rather leave the spot open for Ernie Clement and Addison Barger, both of him has room to improve over the next few years.

We had a poll, asking if the Jays should sign him, if the cost was $35 million a year for four years. 81.9% voted no. Really? $35 million a year? That seems a lot. 81.9% of us voted no in our poll back in November.

Rosenthal likes his ‘leadership’. I think the Jays have enough leaders on the team, but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to have more.

Has your opinion changed since with did that poll? Are you more interested in him now?

Mark Shapiro spoke on XM Radio, ‘Our division is a beast’.

Beyond that, The Guardians, after trading for Justin Bruihl, have DFAed him. They have signed Shawn Armstrong and needed the roster spot. I always wonder if, when things like this happen, does the player DFAed get a jersey?

There is one more player off the market. The White Sox signed Munetaka Murakami. He is getting $34 million over two years.

I don’t understand why he’d want to be with the White Sox, but It is a short contract. He can build value and hit free agency again with the chance to make more money.
