Guardians News and Notes: Stuart Fairchild On a Minor-League Deal

News and Notes for Sunday, December 21st, 2025

The Guardians brought in a right-handed outfielder Stuart Fairchild on a minor-league deal with an invite to Spring Training.

Fairchild is 29 years old and has a career 106 wRC+ against LHP as a right-handed batter who has played an average centerfield when asked to do so. Currently, it looks like he’ll have a fighting chance at that fourth outfield spot in Spring Training, perhaps showing he is healthy after issues with a dislocated pinky and an oblique.

The Guardians also designated newly acquired Justin Briuhl for assignment to add Shawn Armstrong to the roster. We will see if Briuhl makes it through waivers.

Kent Rosenthal repeated the company line about the Guardians not wanting to block young players by adding to the offense in the Athletic. He did say they offered to Lane Thomas but only as a platoon bat and Thomas saw more playing time with the Royals.
