West Ham United are in talks to sign former Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson as they look to pip Leeds United and others of his services, according to the Sun. The ‘incredible’ West Ham and Leeds target is a free agent after leaving the St James’ Park club at the end of last season, and he is attracting the London Stadium club and their counterparts at Elland Road. The Hammers are long-term admirers of the 33-year-old Wilson, once dubbed a ‘huge player’ by Magpies manager Eddie Howe, and talks are being held over an incentivised contract.
West Ham manager Graham Potter wants a new striker after both Danny Ings and Michail Antonio were released at the end of last season, and the former Magpies star has caught his eye. While his injury record remains worrying, Wilson brings quality Premier League experience to the table, and the deal the Hammers are offering him would involve an agreement where his wages are directly tied to the number of games he plays, rather than a fixed salary.
He wants to continue playing in the top-flight and Everton are also keen, but West Ham will hope they can beat their former manager David Moyes and Leeds to him.
