Eagles star ruled out after suffering concerning injury vs. Commanders (UPDATE)

Eagles lose star player to injury.

UPDATE: The Eagles have ruled linebacker Nakobe Dean out against the Commanders after he suffered a hamstring injury in the first quarter.

LANDOVER, Md. — Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean suffered a hamstring injury in the first quarter of Saturday night’s game against the Washington Commanders. The team announced that Dean is questionable to return.

After taking a big hit in the middle of the field, Dean limped off the field with assistance from trainers. He was evaluated inside the medical tent and then went to the locker room at Northwest Stadium.

First-round rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell came in for Dean and could finish the game.

From Week 7 on, Dean has been one of Philadelphia’s best defensive players, finishing with 53 tackles and four sacks. He missed the first five games as he recovered from last year’s knee surgery.

The Eagles trust Dean more as a run defender than Campbell and made him the starter after he got healthy.

Campbell started during the first two months of the season, showing great promise in coverage against tight ends and running backs. He recorded 57 tackles and one interception through the first 15 weeks, with most of his impact coming in the first 10 weeks. He has made six tackles in the last five weeks and been reduced to 46 defensive snaps.

Dean will be a free agent after the season. There’s a good chance he won’t return because Campbell was drafted to be the starter.
