Sports media personality Colin Cowherd claims that Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James knows he won't surpass Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan.
LeBron James is widely considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all-time. While many believe that he is the GOAT, the vast majority would still give that title to Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan.
Following his third championship in 2016, James noted his desire to surpass the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer.
"My motivation is this ghost I'm chasing," LeBron James' infamously stated in 2016. "The ghost played in Chicago."
The four-time MVP has since won his fourth title as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite the fact he will return for a 23rd season, Colin Cowherd recently suggested that his motivations may have changed over the past decade.
"I think Michael Jordan's still in his head," FS1's Colin Cowherd stated Tuesday. "He knows in the basketball community -- with basketball fans -- he's never going to catch MJ. MJ is six-for-six. MJ is more memorable. MJ's got the logo, the brand and sells more shoes. He's more romanticized. Michael Jordan, there are a dozen plays to this day that you close your eyes and think about and you can see Michael Jordan do. Do it, unless you're driving. With LeBron, there's one -- that chase down block against the Warriors. That's it."

"At this point, he's never going to catch him," Cowherd continued. "He's never going to catch him in net worth. MJ's net worth is $3.5 billion. LeBron, even with the massive money he's paid, is $1 billion. That's why he wants to own a basketball team. I think he's chasing Michael and here's the difference -- Michael Jordan makes you feel something and LeBron doesn't."
Cowherd claimed that James has went to the best basketball opportunity at every chance. He suggested that the only time the Lakers star has made fans feel something was when he returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers and led his hometown team to their first title in franchise history.
While James is still playing at a high level and winning a fifth title can't be ruled out, it is unclear if he is still chasing the ghost as he so infamously stated nine years ago. Regardless of how the final year or two of his career play out, his status as one of the game's all-time greats cannot be denied.
