UNC vs. Ohio State: Live Discussion

Can the Tar Heels send the Buckeyes back to Ohio with an L?

We are just moments away from UNC squaring off against Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic. More importantly, we are just moments away from the return of senior guard Seth Trimble, who has not seen the basketball court in a meaningful way since the Heels’ huge win over Kansas. With Trimble’s return, Hubert Davis will now have his full arsenal right before ACC play begins. More importantly in this moment, though, is that his return should have a huge impact against the Buckeyes.

One of the biggest challenges in today’s matchup is senior guard Bruce Thornton, who has been playing incredible basketball so far this season. Right now he is averaging 21.8 points per game, and he is shooting 50% from deep. Trimble’s return couldn’t have had better timing because of this, but we’ll have to hope that his conditioning is up to par to play enough minutes to keep Thornton at bay. On the flipside, UNC will have the size advantage in this one, and so the Buckeyes will have to figure out a way to keep Henri Veesaar and Caleb Wilson from destroying them in the paint.

As it stands today, should UNC win this game they will earn another Quad 1 win since Ohio State is 47th in the NET rankings. The Buckeyes are one of those teams that could eventually fall to a Quad 2, but that is a problem for another day. Regardless, it will be a quality win should the Tar Heels leave Atlanta victorious.

Feel free to hang out with us in the comments section, and as always, we will be back after the game with post-game analysis and takes. Until then, Go Heels!
