That was a lot of moves!
Seems all the team wanted to get their Christmas shopping done prior to this weekend beginning. We had several trades yesterday, two involving the Phillies and a few more that were of some rather significant consequence. Not sure if this kind of flurry of moves has happened like this in the past, but it was rather exciting.
On to the links.
Phillies news:
- One of the things that the team wanted to do this offseason was remake the bullpen. They have succeeded in doing so in less than a week ($).
- The team deserves some big kudos for signing Brad Keller. They have needed a righty like him in the bullpen for a long time ($).
MLB news:
- Yesterday was trade day. First, the Pirates initiated a three-team deal in which they ended up with a big bat in Brandon Lowe.
- The Orioles continued their offseason roster building by acquiring Shane Baz from the Rays. They’re starting to look like a threat.
- The Angels, perhaps sniffing out a judgement against them, settled with Tyler Skaggs’ family in the wrongful death civil suit.
- San Diego, perhaps surprisingly, kept Michael King in the fold by giving him a three-year, $75 million deal. Wonder who they trade to make it happen.
