Jake vs. Joshua left fellow fighters flat
Anthony Joshua got the job done against Jake Paul, but it doesn’t sound like he should be too proud of his latest performance.
Fighters on social media lambasted Joshua and Paul, who headlined Friday’s boxing event at Kaseya Center in Miami, for putting on a fight that lasted a little over five rounds that most expected to be over in less than five minutes. Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, was a massive favorite against Paul, an influencer-turned-fighter, but he didn’t find his knockout touch until midway through Round 6.
For much of the contest, Paul kept as far away from Joshua as possible and though “The Problem Child” had surprising flashes of offense, his gas tank quickly drained and he ended up diving for Joshua’s legs on countless occasions as if he was in a UFC fight. After several warnings, referee Chris Young began to reward knockdowns to Joshua as Paul repeatedly fell to his knees after absorbing Joshua’s punches.
Though several fighters praised Paul for even agreeing to fight Joshua in the first place, most questioned the legitimacy of the bout and what the end result means for Joshua’s legacy.
