Thomas Rettenegger won a Nordic combined World Cup mass start event on Austrian home ground while Norway's Ida Marie Hagen topped the women's competition in Ramsau on Friday.

Rettenegger came 16th in the 10 kilometres cross country mass start but then soared a leading 96 metres in ski jumping for a second season and career victory.

Norway's cross country portion winner Jens Luraas Oftebro was second and Rettenegger's brother, Stefan Rettenegger, completed the podium in third place.

The 2024 World Cup champion Hagen meanwhile dominated the 5km cross country and held on in the jumping with 90 metres for a second season and 19th career success.

American Alexa Brabec was a career-best second and Minja Korhonen of Finland third.

World Cup title holder Nathalie Armbruster of Germany fell in the cross country portion due to total exhaustion but managed to continue and eventually came 12th.

" ‘My body shut down completely. I wanted to run, but I couldn't anymore, I couldn't take another step. I just collapsed and thought, this is the end,’ Armbruster told broadcasters ZDF.

The Ramsau events are completed Saturday with individual competitions in the main format, a ski jump followed by a skiing pursuit. Other Nordic action on Saturday is large hill ski jumping for men and women in Engelberg, Switzerland.
