EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Del Valle High School football standout Jake Fette signed with Arizona State University on Thursday.

Fette, who had been verbally committed to ASU since September 2024, put pen to paper during his signing ceremony to make his college choice official.

“I’ve been committed for over a year now, so it feels like this is what was supposed to happen. I’m just really happy everything’s done. Everything’s set in stone and ready to go work.” Fette said on Thursday.

After three seasons as Del Valle’s varsity quarterback, Fette totaled 9,730 total yards of offense, 130 touchdowns, and went 28-5, with three of those losses coming in the playoffs.

He also led the team to three straight district titles and a bi-district championship in 2024.

Nationally, Fette is recognized as a four-star recruit by 247Sports and competed in the Elite 11 Finals.

He received 16 Division I offers, including from LSU, Auburn, and Texas Tech, but ultimately chose Arizona State.

Fette is a recruit ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham is very high on.

“He’s been committed the longest. Stayed committed through all the people that tried to get him to flip. The want to be here is really important to me. You got to want to be somewhere. You got to be where your feet are and I think he’s going to be where his feet are when he gets here,” Dillingham said during his Sun Bowl media call. “On top of that, his mindset, he’s an unbelievable leader. When he walks into a room you know he’s the leader of the group. People swarmed to him on his official visit. The players swarmed to him. He was the center point of it. One of the center points of it. When you look at his athleticism and his talent, that speaks for itself. And then his character, who he is as a person, his work ethic, all that stuff, how he was raised. So, there’s so many things that that lead me to believe that I have so much faith in him in the future, just because of who he is as a person.”

“The coaching staff is a big reason why I came [to ASU] in in the first place. I love Coach [Kenny] Dillingham and coach [Marcus] Arroyo. They’ve done nothing but show love to me for the past two years.” Fette said.

With Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt in the NCAA transfer portal, Fette looks to contend for the starting quarterback job in 2026.

“I always had the mindset that I’m going to go there with the ready to work and ready to put my all in it,” Fette said on Thursday. “[Sam Leavitt] leaving really adds a whole different meaning to it, because I might be named the starter if I do well enough.”
