Anthony Knox and his father are scheduled to face trial Jan. 7 in Collingswood for alleged involvement in a brawl at the NJSIAA District 25 Tournament.
Former St. John Vianney High School standout wrestler Anthony Knox is looking for a new collegiate home.
Knox, who last March became the NJSIAA’s fifth four-time state champion and first from the Shore Conference, announced Thursday night, Dec. 18 on Instagram that he has decommitted from Cornell University.
Here is Knox's statement from his instagram account:
Knox was taking a gap year (a break from formal education usually taken after high school) before attending Cornell. He was training at the Spartan Combat Regional Training Center in Ithaca, N.Y. Cornell is located in Ithaca.
Knox and his father, Anthony Sr., are scheduled to face trial Jan. 7 in Collingswood for their alleged involvement in a brawl at the NJSIAA District 25 Tournament last Feb. 22 at Collingswood High School.
Both Knox and his father were charged with simple assault and purposely/knowingly causing bodily injury for their alleged roles in the melee. Both have entered not guilty pleas via their lawyer Lawrence Luttrell.
After the incident, Knox was ruled ineligible for the remainder of the state tournament by the NJSIAA. But a judge's temporary restraining order allowed Knox to go ahead and finish his season and become New Jersey’s fifth four-time state champion.
The trial has been delayed several times since last April over video evidence disputes.
