The New York Knicks’ offseason has mostly revolved around their coaching situation, and another layer has emerged.

After making the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000, the Knicks made a surprising move, firing Tom Thibodeau. After Thibodeau had led the franchise to its best stretch in decades, the Knicks chose to hire Mike Brown as his replacement following a lengthy coaching search.

While the Knicks have made some solid roster moves, such as signing Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele, much of New York’s offseason has still revolved around the coaching staff. On Tuesday, SNY’s Ian Begley added some more information about how next season might look.

Begley reported that the Knicks asked for and received permission to interview Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Pablo Prigioni. During his four-year NBA career, Prigioni played on three teams, with his Knicks tenure being most memorable.

Best known for being the oldest rookie in NBA history when he debuted as a 35-year-old in the 2012-13 season, Prigioni quickly became a household name in New York. Prigioni took over as the Knicks’ starting point guard toward the end of that season and was even starting for the team in its run to the second round.

Prigioni has been a massive help for the Timberwolves offense under Chris Finch and could be a perfect fit in New York on Brown’s staff. Only time will tell if Prigioni ends up with the team he began his NBA career with, but the fit certainly is there.

Considering Prigioni was a key part of the 54-win Knicks team in 2013, it would also be fitting for him to play a role on what could be the best Knicks team this century next season.
