Packers-Bears Injury Report: Evan Williams has MCL sprain

Green Bay Packers safety Evan Williams said that he was hurt on the same play that Micah Parsons tore his ACL.

Green Bay Packers starting safety Evan Williams, who has been a non-participant in Tuesday’s walkthrough and Wednesday’s practice this week, revealed today that he sprained his MCL against the Denver Broncos on the same play that Micah Parsons tore his ACL, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky. Williams didn’t return to the field after the injury and was replaced by Zayne Anderson, who could be making a start against the Chicago Bears on Saturday.

Besides Anderson, Javon Bullard, typically the Packers’ nickelback, has also received some reps at the safety position throughout the season. Those are the team’s options if Williams can’t go this week.

Packers Non-Participants

  • RB Josh Jacobs (knee/ankle)
  • RB MarShawn Lloyd (calf/hamstring – IR)
  • WR Jayden Reed (personal matter)
  • TE Josh Whyle (concussion)
  • RT Zach Tom (back/knee)
  • DE Micah Parsons (knee – will go on IR soon)
  • S Evan Williams (knee)

Beyond Williams and Parsons, the only injured starters who didn’t practice on Wednesday for Green Bay were running back Josh Jacobs, who is pushing through a nagging knee injury that dates back over a month now, and right tackle Zach Tom, who injured his knee against the Broncos. With Tom out, both Jordan Morgan and Darian Kinnard were seen getting work at right tackle in the media-open portion of practice today. On Sunday, it was Kinnard, who also played sixth-offensive line looks for the team as a tight end, who stepped in place for Tom.

Slot receiver Jayden Reed missed today’s practice with a personal matter.

Packers Limited Participants

  • RB Chris Brooks (chest)
  • WR Christian Watson (chest/shoulder)
  • WR Dontayvion Wicks (ankle)
  • WR Savion Williams (foot)
  • OL Darian Kinnard (neck)
  • OL John Williams (back, PUP)
  • DE Lukas Van Ness (foot)
  • DE Collin Oliver (hamstring, PUP)

After being estimated non-participants in the Packers’ walkthrough on Tuesday, receiver Christian Watson (chest/shoulder), receiver Dontayvion Wicks (ankle) and defensive end Lukas Van Ness (foot) were able to practice today. It seems like Watson is going to be able to play on Saturday, even though he left the stadium in Denver in an ambulance:

Green Bay also opened up the practice window for offensive lineman John Williams, a rookie seventh-round pick who has been on the physically unable to perform list with a back injury since the start of training camp. This is Williams’ first padded practice as a Packer.

Bears Injury Report

The biggest things to pay attention to on Chicago’s end of things are that receivers Luther Burden III and Rome Odunze remain non-participants in practice. Running back D’Andre Swift also apparently suffered a groin injury recently, as he wasn’t listed with an injury on Tuesday but was limited on Wednesday. Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (groin) remains a limited participant after having his practice window opened this week.
