EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — After trailing by as much as 15 in the first half, the University of Evansville men’s basketball team cut the deficit to one before losing 83-78 in their Missouri Valley conference opener against Belmont.

The Purple Aces came out of the gates slow Tuesday night falling behind by seven points within the first five minutes of the game. Then they managed to tie the game up at 12, before going back down by 15 later in the half. At halftime, the Bruins led the Aces 41-30.

In the second half, UE fell behind again to start with a deficit of 13 points. Then forward Trent Hundley got hot and helped the Aces get back in the game. He hit four of his six three-pointers in the second half to cut into the lead. With 38 seconds left in regulation, AJ Casey banked in a three to cut the deficit down to one. But Belmont was able to ice the game at the free throw line.
