BYU got out to a 21-point halftime lead and countered a Pacific run in the second half to win 93-57 Tuesday night in Provo.

BYU’s defense and its three-quarter court trap was stifling the entire night, holding Pacific to 39% shooting and forcing 18 turnovers. BYU’s offense had lapses, which allowed Pacific to cut the lead to single digits in the second half, but the defense led big runs and got BYU easy points and good looks in transition.

BYU’s big three scored a combined 69 points, and Tyler Mrus had a breakout game off the bench with 15 points. Mrus shot 4-4 from three and 3-3 from the free throw line. Mrus shot 38% from three last year at Idaho, but started this season with a 3-21 start. The made shots were a welcome sight to both Mrus and BYU, whose shooting can add some pop to BYU’s bench.

BYU as a team shot 47% from the floor and 39% from three. BYU controlled the glass, and AJ Dybantsa had a double double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Richie Saunders led all scorers with 24 points and Rob Wright added 22 points.

Pacific came into the game rated 84 in NET and 124 in KenPom, and BYU dispatched them easily. BYU stays home for a Friday night game versus Abilene Christian on TNT.
