Who are the 2025 best players accoding to FIFA?
The year is about to conclude… and the best of the best, according to FIFA, have been announced!
The best goalkeeper
The Lioness’ and Chelsea goalkeeper, Hannah Hampton, has been chosen as the best in her category for 2025.
The 25-year-old Birmingham native became only the second English player to win this prestigious award, following Mary Earps, who won it back-to-back in 2022 and 2023.
Hampton won this award after being a key part of England’s win at the 2025 Euros, stopping two penalties in the quarterfinals against Sweden and the final against Spain. For club, the goalkeeper has been a key figure in helping Chelsea to win the League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
“Thank you very much to everyone who voted,” said Hampton as she received her award. “It’s greatly appreciated, and it really means a lot. [Thank you] to Sarina [Wiegman] and to Sonia [Bompastor] for the belief in me this year. Both at club and country, we’ve achieved so much and there’s still so much set out for us to go and get.”
Lizbeth “The Magician” Ovalle honored with the Marta award
Many great goals were nominated to get the second edition of this award, but none of them equaled in quality to “The Little Shrimp,” as Ovalle called it herself (“El Camaroncín,” in Spanish).
The whole soccer world stopped to watch Ovalle’s goal while she was playing with Tigres in Liga MX Femenil and even Al-Nassr player Cristiano Ronaldo tried to emulate it, failing to do so.
In case you missed it, here’s Ovalle’s goal:
Ovalle’s 2025 proved to be a great one, not only after winning this award but also after moving to the NWSL’s Orlando Pride for a record transfer of $1.5 million dollars.
FIFA Women’s Player of the Year
Aitana Bonmatí continues to be at the top of the world after being chosen as the best player of the year by FIFA.
This is the third consecutive time she has taken the award home despite losing a final for club and country in 2025. However, her quality is clearly seen after being chosen as the MVP for both campaigns.
After spending days in the hospital with meningitis days before the start of the Euros, it did not deter her from proving to be the best. She recovered in time and could participate in the tournament, shining brighter than anyone else.
Her achievements for this year include: The Liga F title, the Spanish Supercup, runner-up at the Euros, runner-up in the Champions League, MVP for both Euros and Champions League, and leader in assists for the Champions League.
FIFA Women’s Coach of the Year
Lionesses head coach Sarina Wiegman took home the award for best coach after winning the Euros back-to-back in 2022 and 2025 with England.
One of the most decorated coaches in women’s game history was nominated along with the latest UEFA Champions League winner, Renée Slegers, Orlando Pride’s Seb Hines, Lyonnais’s Jonatan Giráldez, and Chelsea’s Sonia Bompastor.
This is the fifth award the Dutch coach has received, after being the recipient of such an award in 2017, 2020, 2022 and 2023. It is important to remember that she was also chosen as the best coach by Football France this year.
