The trusty no. 2 for FC Bayern is at a crossroads
Sven Ulreich has been Bayern Munich’s reliable deputy in the event that Manuel Neuer is unavailable. However, a personal tragedy has deeply affected Ulreich and there are rumors that he may retire at the end of the season upon the expiration of his contract. Both parties said that nothing is set in stone just yet.
“No, no decision has been made yet. It’s also possible that I’ll continue. I haven’t given it any serious thought yet. We’ll decide that together next year. I’m taking it week by week,” Ulreich said (via ransport as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). Sporting director Max Eberl also weighed in on the topic: “First we’ll make the big decisions, like with Upa, and then the others. Spring is quite possible, like with Manuel Neuer.”
Before Ulreich, there was Tom Starke who himself deputized for Ulreich in the 2017/18 season. Starke is now a goalkeeping coach at the club so it is possible that Ulreich will follow him there. No one really has a clue about what the player wants, so we’ll just have to follow along and see what happens next.
