Germany's next opponents have been revealed.
The Germany national team are kicking off preparations for the 2026 World Cup next summer, and another opponent along that path has been revealed. Germany will be playing Ghana in their second friendly of the March international break.
“We are really looking forward to the match against Otto Addo’s team,” said coach Julian Nagelsmann. “Their strong counter-attacking game can give us a taste of what to expect in the World Cup group stage match against Ivory Coast.”
Ghana have qualified for a second consecutive World Cup. They finished bottom of their group in 2022 behind Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay. However, they are not a side to be trifled with, as they gave all three of their opponents some major problems, even beating the Koreans. This time, Ghana have been drawn with England, Croatia, and Panama.
Germany played Ghana in two successive World Cups in 2010 and 2014. Curiously, they were the only side that Germany did not defeat on the road to the title in 2014. Goals from Mario Götze and Miroslav Klose earned the eventual world champions a 2-2 draw.
As Nagelsmann mentioned, this match is most likely a warm-up for Germany’s group game against Ivory Coast, whom they play in the second match. The friendly will be played in Stuttgart on the 30th of March.
