Adolis Garcia is reportedly heading to Philly on a one year deal
MLB Rumors: Adolis Garcia and the Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to terms on a one year, $10 million deal, per Francys Romero.
Garcia, who turns 33 in March, was non-tendered by the Texas Rangers in November after his second straight disappointing offensive season in 2025. Garcia was a huge part of the Rangers’ 2023 World Series team, slashing .245/.328/.508 in the regular season and .323/.382/.726 in the playoffs while winning a Gold Glove for his play in right field.
Garcia’s offense has declined significantly since then, however, as he has slashed .225/.278/.397 over the past two seasons, putting up a 98 OPS+ and 94 wRC+ in 2024 and a 93 OPS+ and 83 wRC+ in 2025. We can’t entirely blame 2025 on the Shed, either, as his .304 xwOBA was down from his .306 xwOBA in 2024, and way down from his .366 xwOBA in 2023. In 2023 he was drawing walks at an impressive clip and hitting the ball really hard and at effective launch angles when he made contact. His walk rate has dropped in half from 2023 to 2025, and his quality of contact has dropped, making him largely a non-factor offensively.
Its worth noting that while Garcia’s defense was also poor in 2024 — he put up a -5 DRS and a -11 FRV — he rebounded defensively in 2025, with a +16 DRS and +2 FRV. He had a remarkably wide spread between his bWAR and fWAR in 2025, putting up a 2.7 bWAR but a 0.7 fWAR, the delta owing in part to the 14 run difference between DRS (which B-R uses) and FRV (which FG uses), as well as the differing park factors the two sites use.
This is less than Garcia was projected to make in arbitration, though still a raise over the $9.25 million he made last year in the second year of the two year deal he signed after the 2023 season. The Phillies have been looking for a righthanded outfield bat, and so Garcia fits as a replacement for Nick Castellanos, who actually hit a little better than Garcia last season (90 wRC+), but who is brutal defensively and who the team has seemed likely to release.
