Chelsea really got themselves into hot water over the deal to sign Joao Felix, and nobody is jumping in to help them out.
Despite having had him on loan in 2022-2023, Chelsea weren’t put off by his tepid showings in a strange season. They paid Atletico Madrid £35m to sign him last summer, according to some purely to give the Spanish side the liquid funds to sign Conor Gallagher from us so that we could comply with some FFP rules.
At this rate, we’d have been better off finding a different solution. Even just taking a fine as punishment might have proved less costly. Just a year on from signing him we’re keen to shift Felix, and there are no takers.

The only team to have shown any interest is Benfica, and as the Sun point out in their article on the subject, the Portuguese giants are sitting pretty in a very strong position.
They know there’s a lack of interest, and they can just wait us out and watch the price come down:
“With potential bidders from Saudi Arabia not yet making a move for Felix, Benfica reckon they could be the only game in town if Chelsea want to get him off their books.”

There is one pressure point we have on them – that they want their prodigal son and potential marquee signing to play in the Portuguese Super Cup against Sporting next week. But frankly we can’t see it all happening in time for that anyway.
Don’t be surprised if we suddenly hear some quite spurious rumours about Saudi interest in Felix pop up over the next few days as the Blues try to make his market seem a little healthier.
