Chelsea have reportedly slashed their asking price for Christopher Nkunku amidst speculation that Manchester United are interested in him.

United linked to Nkunku

United are looking to add firepower to the team after a goal-shy 2024/25 campaign that saw them finish in 15th place in the Premier League.

So far, the Red Devils have finalised deals for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, whose arrival from Brentford was confirmed on Monday evening.

United are expected to continue beefing up their attacking department, with a new striker the next item on their agenda. One such player believed to be on their radar is the versatile Nkunku. He has primarily been deployed in an attacking midfield role in his career but can very well lead the line.

He has not had the best of time since joining Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023.

A combination of injuries and poor form when available has seen Nkunku find it hard to nail down a regular starting berth at Stamford Bridge. Competition for places is also stiff, which has certainly not helped his situation.

Chelsea are willing to offload him this summer and in addition to United, Bayern Munich have also been named as an interested party in the Frenchman.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Chelsea value Nkunku at £35m. However, according to The Athletic, it appears the Blues want a lot more than this to sanction his sale, although they’ve been forced to compromise in a bid to ensure they don’t price him out of a move.

Chelsea slash Nkunku asking fee

The Athletic reveal, “To start with, Chelsea have dropped their asking price by £22m for Christopher Nkunku, who has admirers in the Premier League, Italy and Germany.”

“The Athletic reported earlier this month that Bayern Munich had renewed their interest.”

“The Athletic revealed the London club valued the France international at £65m. But it has now been cut to €50m (around £43.3m).

At €50m, United are still unlikely to press ahead with a deal for Nkunku. It does not fit within their budget and there are still question marks about the 27-year-old’s suitability to English football.
