The Kinston Vikings are set to play for their third football state title in modern history, after upsetting the number one, three, six, and seven seeds in the 3A bracket, and hope to avenge their 2015 loss to Shelby.
KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — Kinston and Tarboro are set to compete in their respective state title games on Saturday.
10 years ago, on Dec. 12, 2015, Kinston last played for a state title. They went to Carter-Finley Stadium at NC State and lost to Shelby 57-21. Now, they head to Durham on Saturday to avenge that loss to the Golden Lions.
It’s also the third time in modern history that Kinston has played for a state title, and the Vikings hope that the third time can be a charm.
Tarboro, on the other hand, will face off against Murphy, both of which have been at the top of the 2A all season long. They meet tomorrow at 5 PM at Lenoir-Rhyne.
