Fabrizio Romano has his hands full dealing with a few Chelsea moves at the moment, and another one is developing from our sister club in France.
There’s already been tons of action relating to Strasbourg in the last 24 hours, with Mike Penders and Kendry Paez both set to follow Mamadou Sarr on loan there sooner rather than later.
Strasbourg want to hold on to former Blue
Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet about Diego Moreira.
Romano reported yesterday that Strasbourg are determined to hold on to Diego Moreira, who they signed from us permanently a year ago for just £1.7m after a successful loan spell. They want €30m, and so far Atalanta and the Premier League clubs interested are offering closer to €20m.
We expect to hear a lot more about this move over the next few weeks. There is likely to be some sort of sell-on fee for Chelsea to benefit from this deal, and we’re looking forward to hearing more.
Chelsea jumped the gun on Moreira sale – but won’t mind too much
Whether Moreira goes for €20m or €30m, it’s pretty clear that Chelsea pulled the trigger too early on selling the former Benfica academy player. They wanted to clear an extra loan slot up – but if they’d known how quickly his value would jump they would have done it another way.
Still, the Blues won’t mind too much. This partnership with Strasbourg can’t just be a one way street, with the French side scouting young talents for us as well as developing our future stars. They also need to get some upside from it, and this is a great example of how it can work out for them.
The money will (at least partly) be reinvested into other players who can strengthen their team and potentially become targets for us someday anyway.
