Atletico Madrid have submitted a €35 million offer to Chelsea for the services of Renato Veiga, according to L’Equipe.

Diego Simeone’s side are eyeing a move for Veiga, who is largely expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer in search of regular game time, eyeing a place in Portugal’s 2026 World Cup squad.

Veiga, who was left out of Chelsea’s squad for the recently-concluded Club World Cup in the United States, has reportedly agreed personal terms with Los Colchoneros as they continue negotiations with Chelsea. The Blues are holding out for a €40m package.

Bundesliga champions Bayern have also been linked with a move, but Atletico are currently at the front of the queue.

Veiga joined Chelsea from FC Basel last summer but spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Serie A giants Juventus, where he impressed.

Having completed five signings already this summer, Chelsea are now focused on parting ways with players deemed surplus to requirements, one of which is Veiga.

While centre-back remains his preferred position, the 21-year-old can also fill in at left-back, a position Atletico were looking to strengthen earlier this window with their pursuit of Theo Hernandez.

It remains to be seen if Atletico will give in to Chelsea’s demands, but both clubs have a fairly harmonious relationship, having conducted business for Joao Felix last summer.

Should Veiga get his preferred move to the Wanda Metropolitano, the defender will have the opportunity to establish himself as a key player in one of Europe’s leading sides.
