Here are the Register's female Athlete of the Week candidates from the metro area for the week of July 13-19.
The week of July 13-19 saw the IGHSAU state softball tournament field set in all five classes.
The Des Moines metro area had 10 teams qualify for the state softball tournament.
In Class 5A, No. 1 Waukee Northwest, No. 3 Southeast Polk, No. 4 Ankeny Centennial, No. 5 West Des Moines Valley and Dowling Catholic all advanced. No. 2 Norwalk, No. 3 North Polk, No. 4 Dallas Center-Grimes and No. 5 Adel-Desoto-Minburn are headed to state in 4A and No. 1 Van Meter will be representing the metro area in 2A.
There were several outstanding individual performances from softball players from the metro area during the regional final games on July 14 and 15.

Brynn Cibula, Valley
Cibula had herself a night at the plate for No. 5 West Des Moines Valley during the Tiger softball team's 4-1 victory over Waukee in the Class 5A Region 4 championship game on July 15 at West Des Moines.
Cibula was a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run for the Tigers. She scored three runs, drove in one, stole a base and had one assist and putout apiece with no errors in right field.
Abby Johnson, Dowling Catholic
Johnson helped power Dowling Catholic to its 10-4 5A Region 5 championship game victory over Cedar Rapids Jefferson on July 15 in West Des Moines.
Johnson was 4-for-4 with two home runs for the Maroons. She drove in four runs and scored three during the game.
Tessa Jones, DCG
Jones threw a strong game for the 4A No. 4 Dallas Center-Grimes softball team during the Mustangs' 8-2 victory over No. 12 Creston in the 4A Region 2 championship game at Dallas Center.
Jones gave up two earned runs on seven hits, and she struck out 10 batters with no walks in seven innings to help send DCG back to the state tournament.
Sophia Schlader, Waukee Northwest
Schlader was amazing in the circle for the No. 1 Waukee Northwest softball team during its 2-0 victory over Ottumwa in the 5A Region 1 championship game on July 15 at Waukee.
Schlader threw a no-hitter, and she faced one batter over the minimum over seven innings. She recorded an astounding 17 strikeouts and added a solo home run at the plate for the Wolves.
Aubrey Noring, ADM
Noring brought power to the plate for the No. 5 Adel-Desoto-Minburn softball team during its 12-1 victory over No. 14 Segreant Bluff-Luton in five innings during the 4A Region 4 championship game on July 15 at Adel.
The Tiger freshman went 2-for-2 with a walk and two home runs. She both scored and drove in three runs apiece.
