Tyrrell Hatton is a wordsmith.

His speech might not have the rhyme and meter of Shakespeare, nor the disciplined poetic structure of Robert Frost, yet Hatton's words are masterful and resonate with audiences all the same.

His hot-mic moments and self-deprecating commentary are at a level of stream of consciousness that even James Joyce would applaud, and have earned Hatton the reputation as being one of the most relatable figures in the game. Needless to say, it's never a dull moment when Hatton is around.

During his press conference following the second round of The Open, where the European Ryder Cup team veteran posted a 2-under 69, Hatton had one of the most iconic answers that only he could provide when asked about how he unwinds and de-stresses after a round.

"Normally a Guinness is a pretty good way to start. Certainly this week anyway," Hatton responded.

"Couple more pints tonight?" the reporter asked as a follow-up, to which Hatton replied without missing a beat: "Be rude not to."

Shakespeare himself couldn't have come up with such a perfect phrase, and the response had the press room laughing. The 33 year-old Englishman then revealed the ideal number of pints to have before moving day at The Open Championship.

"I think three's the magic number. ... Two to three, because you're definitely not close to a hangover and you still feel like you've got, I mean hopefully I've got a late tee time tomorrow."

Hatton is 5 under after two rounds at The Open Championship, tied for fifth place with Robert MacIntyre, Harris English and last week's Scottish Open Champion, Chris Gotterup.

Currently the 23rd ranked player in the world, Hatton garnered one career PGA Tour win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2020 before signing with LIV Golf in 2024 where he joined Jon Rahm's team, Legion XIII, a deal worth $63 million.

Hatton is seeking his first major win this weekend at Royal Portrush. His best finish at a major came earlier this summer where he tied for fourth at the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.
