Legendary college basketball analyst Dick Vitale put out a prediction for Sunday’s top 10 football matchup between Notre Dame and Miami. However, the timing of his post was a bit peculiar.

Vitale waited until late in the second quarter of the contest between the Fighting Irish and Hurricanes to post his prediction on X. Additionally, he made an error when referring to Miami quarterback Carson Beck, who transferred from Georgia this offseason.

Vitale mistakenly claimed that Beck had led the Bulldogs to two national championships, presumably confusing him with former Georgia QB Stetson Bennett. You can view the video below.

“Another hour and the football season for the Fighting Irish begins as they head to Miami and they play Miami, a highly rated team with a new quarterback they have,” Vitale said. “Came over from Georgia where he led them to two national titles, Mr. Beck.

“Question is how will our quarterback at Notre Dame do in his debut. Taking his first snap as a Notre Dame football player, CJ Carr. I’m telling you, this kid can throw the football. So I hope that you are patient and understand this is his first snaps as a college football player. So let’s go Irish, baby. I’ll tell you this, I’ll let you know, my bald dome says Notre Dame, baby. The Fighting Irish 29-25 over Miami.”

It was likely just an honest mistake with Vitale regarding Beck, but it is still a bit puzzling why the video was posted so late. Regardless, Vitale seems almost as excited to watch the Fighting Irish kick off their season as he would be a big college basketball matchup.

Vitale is a noted supporter of Notre Dame, where both of his daughters played tennis. As such, his prediction for the Fighting Irish to come out with a victory makes sense.

So far, it’s not looking good for Vitale’s prediction as Miami carried a 14-7 advantage into halftime. Carr, however, did have a few impressive moments from the first half, including connecting with Micah Gilbert on a seven-yard touchdown. He was 8-of-12 passing for 54 yards across the first two quarters.

Although Notre Dame finds itself down early, there is still plenty of time remaining for them to make Vitale’s prediction come true. We’ll see how Carr and company respond coming out of the locker room as the look to climb their way out of this deficit.
