Nick SabanpraisedJeff Brohm and Louisville QB Miller Moss prior to the Cardinals season opening victory. The former coach anticipated the combination to be lethal throughout the course of the season.
It was an uneven performance from Moss in the 51-17 victory over Eastern Kentucky. However, Brohm liked the efficiency throughout most of the game.
Brohm didn’t see or hear Saban’s comments, but appreciated the sentiment. He then noted if Moss improves, it’ll only benefit the team as a whole.
“I didn’t see it. But of course, coach Saban is one of the greatest to ever do it, and as you know, won a ton of championships,” Brohm said. “(He) coaches football the right way. Yes, we know each other from way back on a couple of occasions, but great respect for him. He obviously knows the college game. I think he knows that. You know, every team has some component that can help them win football games.
“Of course, Miller is our quarterback, and I think he’s got really good experience and talent and played very efficient today. The games will get tougher and tougher, and you’ll have to continue to be accurate, make throws, but then be able to, you know, make some off rhythm throws and decisions and that’s where he’s got to show that he can do. If he does that he’ll have a chance to play beyond, but I was very proud of, you know, his performance today. And you know I hope that we can continue to improve that.”
Moss was 17-of-25 passing for 223 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He added a touchdown on the ground as well.
“Miller Moss ends up at Louisville with Jeff Brohm, which is going to be a lethal combination because of the way he uses quarterback and Miller Moss’s ability,” Saban said on College GameDay. “This is going to be fantastic.”
Moss spent four years at USC and had a decent season as a full-time starter. However, he only played nine games last year. He finished with 2,555 yards, 18 touchdowns, nine interceptions and a 64.4% completion percentage.
While Moss was in Los Angeles, Brohm was taking Louisville to a 10-win season in 2023 and nine wins in 2024. They were ranked inside the top 15 in both seasons, but have failed to find themselves in the conference championship in each of those years. In 2025, Saban feels as though the Cardinals are ready to take the next step.
“I think they got a legitimate shot, I really do,” Saban continued. “They’ve got a good football team, but you never know. There’s so many changes, positive changes of leadership, culture changes. But I think they’re going to have a shot.”
