Brentford Under-21s make the trip north on Tuesday as they face Huddersfield Town Under-21s in Professional Development League action at Canalside Training Centre (1pm kick-off).

Sam Saunders’ side will be eyeing their first league win of the season, following a draw and a loss to open the campaign.

In a revamped PDL format, the young Bees sit 17th in the league table, with Huddersfield in last place three spots below them.

Three league fixtures will follow the Huddersfield clash (Wigan Athletic, Crewe Alexandra and Colchester United), before the young Bees kick-off their Premier League Cup campaign against Exeter City Reserves away from home on 30 September.

Speaking on the Huddersfield clash, Saunders said: “It’ll be a good test, another good game, the boys have got to respond.

“We won it last year so we’re a scalp and that’s a credit to what the boys did last year but that’s last year, it’s gone.

“Teams come in and want to make it difficult for us and frustrate us. We can’t give teams a leg-up in the game, we’ve got to be a bit more solid and not give away cheap goals.”

Last time out

The west Londoners suffered a 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United at home last time out.

After going down 2-0 early in the second half the young Bees responded strongly, getting a goal back through Ethan Laidlaw.

Despite their dominance across the latter stages of the second half, an equaliser couldn’t be found, the young Blades adding a third goal in stoppage time to secure all three points.

About Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield come into Tuesday’s clash last in the league table with zero wins from three games and a goal difference of -11.

The young Terriers opened their account with a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth away from home, followed by defeats to Colchester United (2-0) and Swansea City (6-0).

This season is the side’s first back in the PDL since an academy re-structure in 2017 saw the club move away from a full academy system, the U21s re-named Huddersfield Town B team.

Across the past two seasons the club has jumped from Category Four to Category Two status as it re-introduced the under-9 to under-16 age groups, this month seeing the B team revert back to Huddersfield Town Under-21s.
