Bayern Munich, Chelsea agree Nicolas Jackson loan — report

Here we go

I’m not sure many would’ve expected that Nicolas Jackson would end up at Bayern Munich by the end of the summer — Newcastle, what are you doing? — but as reported by Fabrizio Romano this morning, our Champions League foes have agreed a deal to take him on loan for the season, and with a buy option to boot.

The numbers are pretty staggering for a loan deal, with Romano claiming that Bayern are paying a whopping €15m just as a loan fee, while the buy-option package would be upwards of €80m with a sell-on (the most optimistic sell-on, that). And presumably they’re covering his full wages.

All things aside, that’s pretty impressive dealmaking. It’s less impressive squad-planning, but the temporary nature of the deal means we can revisit the situation in a year and figure out what may be best for all involved (unless Bayern do use their option, which seems highly unlikely at this very moment but I suppose you never know).

Jackson still has to pass his medical and sign the things that need to be signed, but he’s got until Monday so those formalities should be able to get done well in time before the deadline.
