The St. Louis Cardinals have been one team that's struggled immensely since the MLB trade deadline at the end of July. In August, the Cardinals are 11-14, leading to a 66-69 overall record after Thursday.

St. Louis was labeled as a selling franchise at the deadline after getting rid of multiple veteran pitchers to bring in younger prospects for the transition of presidents of baseball operations.

The process has been rocky, and it's shown in several areas – one player that's struggled in 2025 has been starting pitcher Andre Pallante.

Oli Marmol commits to Andre Pallante moving despite 2025 struggles

26-year-old pitcher Andre Pallante has run into his least productive season after transitioning to a full-time starting position in 2025.

Despite the struggles, manager Oli Marmol seems to be committed to the young pitcher for the future.

"Manager Oliver Marmol said RHP Andre Pallante (1-8, 8.27 ERA in last nine starts) will start vs. the Reds on Sunday," MLB insider John Denton said on X. "Underlying metrics show that Pallante's stuff is similar to 2024, but hitters have adjusted. The club wants him to work through the needed changes.

Pallante transitioned to a starting role in 2024 and was able to produce productive numbers in his 20 starts. The momentum hasn't seemed to flip over to this season. In 26 starts this season, he has a 6-12 record, 5.44 ERA, 1.42 WHIP,  and has a 95-48 strikeout to walk ratio in 139 innings pitched.

The Cardinals' playoff hopes are fading as president of baseball operations John Mozeliak looks to his final month before passing the torch to Chaim Bloom.
