Nine key Notre Dame targets visiting Miami for top-10 showdown

Nine priority Notre Dame football recruits will visit Miami for Sunday’s top-10 matchup at Hard Rock Stadium. Here are the names to know.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas 2027 WR Julius Jones Jr. (Chad Simmons/Rivals)

The No. 6-ranked Notre Dame football program will have the chance to impress more than 100 recruits at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday night when it faces No. 10 Miami. At least 16 of those underclassman prospects already hold scholarship offers from the Fighting Irish.

Ahead of this week’s marquee matchup, Blue & Gold breaks down the nine visitors to know in the 2027 class.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas five-star OT Mark Matthews

Notre Dame offered the 6-foot-5, 301-pound Matthews in May. While Miami, Oregon, Florida and Florida State are leading the way, the Irish remain in the mix early in his junior season.

“I like just the school and the culture behind Notre Dame,” Matthews told Rivals vice president of recruiting Steve Wiltfong on July 29. “Also, (offensive line) coach (Joe) Rudolph, when offering me, explained a lot of things to me, which made me feel very welcome. I also like coach (Marcus) Freeman a lot as well.”

A strong showing at Hard Rock Stadium could help push Notre Dame toward securing a campus visit this season.

Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity Catholic five-star EDGE David Jacobs

Jacobs, a Georgia legacy, unofficially visited Notre Dame in the spring. Afterward, the Irish appeared firmly in the mix. But in arecent interview with Rivals director of recruiting Chad Simmons, Jacobs listed Florida State, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M as the schools standing out.

Miami was not among those programs, giving Notre Dame reason for optimism. Another advantage is four-star quarterback Teddy Jarrard’s commitment. Jarrard and Jacobs played youth football together.

“Yes sir, that is my brother,” Jacobs told Blue & Gold earlier this summer. “I love Teddy. This is big for Notre Dame. … I love everything about Teddy. He’s a great person, an amazing guy to be around, a great football player and overall a great human being.”

Sunday’s result could play a role in shaping Jacobs’ recruitment.

Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons four-star CB Xavier Hasan

The top prospect in North Carolina will be back in Miami ahead of his Notre Dame return visit for the Texas A&M game in two weeks. Both the Irish and Hurricanes made Hasan’s top 12 earlier this month.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star WR Julius Jones Jr.

Aside from keeping its 2026 class commitments locked, Notre Dame’s biggest recruiting task this fall is getting Jones on campus. He’s a legacy recruit at a position of need, and the Irish could do well for themselves by impressing him on Sunday night.

Chicago Mount Carmel four-star DB Tavares Harrington

Alabama and Notre Dame are the leaders for Chicagoland’s top defensive back prospect. Harrington will see the Irish on the road Sunday before returning to South Bend for the Texas A&M game. This will be his first visit to Miami.

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star S Zayden Gamble

In the 2026 cycle, Notre Dame stunned many by landing Winter Park (Fla.) four-star safety Ayden Pouncey. Could defensive backs coach Mike Mickens do it again with Gamble in 2027? Gamble is considering a trip to campus for the Oct. 18 USC game. Sunday’s visit gives the Irish another chance to strengthen his interest.

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star LB Amarri Irvin

Irvin is the younger brother of former Notre Dame running back commit Sedrick Irvin Jr., who signed with Stanford in 2023. That hasn’t stopped Amarri from showing interest — he visited South Bend in June. Still, Irvin holds more than 50 offers and is originally from Miami, giving the Hurricanes natural appeal.

Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove four-star DL Deven Robertson

The 6-1, 320-pound Robertson may be just as excited to watch Notre Dame as Miami on Sunday. Still, the Hurricanes could make an impression as they push in his recruitment. Robertson will be back in South Bend for the Texas A&M game on Sept. 13, and the Irish could look to close on his commitment then.

Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day three-star EDGE Griff Galloway

Galloway’s father,Lonnie, is an offensive analyst at Clemson, but Griff is open to other programs. He visited Notre Dame in June and now will see the Irish again Sunday. He’s off to a strong junior season with 8 tackles and 3 quarterback hurries in his opener.

Waukesha (Wis.) Catholic Memorial three-star EDGE Isaac Miller

Miller plays at the same high school that produced Notre Dame freshman offensive tackle Owen Strebig. He’ll see the Irish twice this season — Sunday in Miami and Oct. 18 when USC visits South Bend.
