Raiders' QB Cam Miller gets $234,000 contract update

The rookie gets some good news.

Cam Miller got bad news on Tuesday. That's when the Las Vegas Raiders waived their rookie sixth-round quarterback out of North Dakota State.

The news was better on Wednesday. That's when he cleared waivers and was brought back to sign with the Vegas practice squad.

Miller, as a rookie, will get $13,000 per week as long as he's on the practice squad, which works out to $234,000 for an 18-week season.

It makes the initial waiving of Miller more sensible. At first, it was surprising that the Raiders would cut Miller and make him available to other teams via the waivers process.

Apparently, Vegas must've had some sense that he'd probably pass through waivers.

He's a great developmental quarterback as a strong athlete coming from a slightly lower level of college football (albeit a powerhouse at that FCS level).

Miller lost his chance at the 53-man roster earlier this week. The Raiders were lined up to have Miller be QB2 behind Geno Smith when Aidan O'Connell was hurt.

They decided they needed a veteran in that role, though. So they called up the quarterback-overloaded Cleveland Browns to swing a trade for Kenny Pickett.

Pickett will be Smith's backup for as long as the duo is healthy.

Miller, in a perfect world for the Raiders, will just get to watch and learn this season.

Most sixth-round QBs are not like the Vegas ownership group's most famous member, Tom Brady. They don't all become legends.

But Miller has an interesting skillset and could still develop as a passer.

He'll get a real chance to do that now on the Raiders' practice squad.
